Match report – WGTC Mens 1s vs Sutton Churches Mens 1s

Woodfield Grove mens 1st team were pleased to give a debut to 2 new(ish) members,  George and Tristan. They ran out as a solid pair against a slightly stronger SCTC team. Tight games and many deuces ended in a 5-7, 4-6 loss in their first rubber. Undeterred they regrouped and had things gone differently they could have reversed their 3-6, 6-7 result.

Next door the longstanding partnership of Aiden and Ajay showed all to familiar peaks and dips in concentration. From 5-4 up they lost their first set in a tie breaker (6-7). From there they stormed off to a 6-0 second set win. With the momentum all in their favour they threw away the championship tie breaker with error filled attacking play.

4-4 in the second rubber was quickly lost 4-6, then the pair rallied to take the second set 6-2 and manages to keep the cart on the road on this occasion and won the championship tie breaker.

It was a pleasure to host SCTC after the match and we look forward to their return in the mixed league in a couple of weeks.
